Office of General Studies COVID-19 GuideLast updated 5:00 p.m. on March 18, 2020
This webpage is a means of disseminating general information to students in Freshman Studies, the Bachelor of Multi-Disciplinary Studies, and the Bachelor of University Studies. The University of Mississippi remains open for business and, in the Office of General Studies, we will strive to maintain all operations to the extent possible. The primary objective of our University’s Contingency Operations is to minimize risk of spreading the virus, so our office will follow general guidance provided by senior leadership at the University. Our Dean’s Office is here to answer questions you may have or to help solve issues that may arise during Contingency Operations. Contingency plans for all members of our University community can be found at https://coronavirus.olemiss.edu/
CLASSES AND COURSEWORK
Students are strongly encouraged to return to their family home and stay there during this period to promote social distancing and minimize the risk of spreading the virus. Your courses will be revised so that, to the extent possible, all class activities can be completed remotely. Classes are expected to relaunch on Monday, March 23rd. Until that time, faculty are working diligently to revise your classes. Faculty will reach out to you when courses are ready to begin. Please work directly with your faculty to troubleshoot any problems with alternative methods of course delivery.
- Information to help you prepare for and successfully complete your courses can be found at the University’s Keep Learning website.
- Information on resources to address internet accessibility and technology concerns are available at:
- Electronic resources to assist in completing courses can be found at the JD Williams Library website.
We will continue to use alternate forms of communication to advise students, following the original academic calendar for advising and registration. Rather than in-person advising appointments, our advisors will be advising through phone, e-mail and, in some cases, by video conferencing apps such as ZOOM. Currently there is no plan to change registration windows. Our advisors are working hard to accommodate your registration needs and advise you on summer/fall course selection prior to your registration window opening. If they have not already, one of our advisors will be reaching out to you soon via your go.olemiss.edu email. Please be sure to check your UM email account on a daily basis.
